How to Search the Kiowa Court Docket
Start with the paperwork. The heading on a citation or notice tells you where the case lives. A Kiowa town ordinance or municipal traffic case belongs to Kiowa Municipal Court. Anything on the state side, meaning traffic, misdemeanor, civil, felony, domestic, probate, or juvenile, belongs to Elbert County Combined Court. The free state calendar can show an upcoming state hearing. The town itself posts no searchable municipal daily docket online.
- Identify Kiowa Municipal Court, County Court, or District Court on the document.
- For a town case, contact the Kiowa municipal clerk with the citation number and name.
- For a state case, open the Elbert-filtered state docket and choose the right court type.
- Match the complete case number, hearing type, date, time, appearance type, and courtroom.
- Call the proper Kiowa clerk if the result is blank or conflicts with a signed notice.
For a state filing or certified copy, use the Judicial Branch request form or contact Combined Court. A town record goes through the municipal clerk. The route follows whichever office holds the record, not the fact that all three share a Kiowa address.
Three Kiowa Court Record Counters
Three public counters serve Kiowa, each with its own job. Town Hall at 404 Comanche Street houses the municipal court. Elbert County Combined Court at 751 Ute Avenue keeps the District and County Court files. The Elbert County Clerk and Recorder at 440 Comanche Street records land instruments. It also handles county functions. That office is not the state court clerk.
| Kiowa office | Use it for | Do not send |
|---|---|---|
| Municipal Court | Town ordinance and municipal traffic cases | District or County Court record requests |
| Combined Court | State case dates, filings, copies, and certification | Town ordinance citation questions |
| Clerk and Recorder | Recorded instruments and county services | Kiowa court dockets or divorce files |
This map of offices prevents the most common Kiowa mistake. County-seat status does not merge the clerks or their records. Any Kiowa counter can redirect a confused visitor. Asking the right one first saves time. Take a town citation to the Kiowa municipal clerk. Take a Kiowa state hearing or filed order to the Combined Court clerk. Take an instrument recorded with the county to the recorder. Do not take it to the Kiowa court docket that produced it.
The Kiowa Municipal Court
Start with the court itself. The official Kiowa Municipal Court page covers town ordinance violations and municipal traffic cases for Kiowa. Sessions are held at Town Hall, 404 Comanche Street, Kiowa, CO 80117. Mail goes to P.O. Box 237. You can reach the court clerk at 303-710-1916 or courtclerk@townofkiowa.com.
The office opens Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Court is in person, starting at 9:00 a.m. and running until the docket is finished. The usual rhythm is the first Monday of every other month, though holidays can shift a date. Posted sessions so far have carried 2025 dates. Treat that as history, not a 2026 calendar. Confirm before you go.
For the Kiowa docket, the town's own page is the authority worth checking: Kiowa Municipal Court.
That page points searchers to the Kiowa clerk and current instructions. Those matter more than any stale date list.
No Kiowa Municipal Docket Online
The town offers no searchable municipal register or current daily docket online. The town page still helps with clerk contact details and the general schedule, but it is not a case-history database. Call with the citation number, defendant name, and issue date for a specific municipal matter.
Current-date rule: Use the Kiowa citation and municipal clerk for the live setting because the visible web dates may be stale.
A no-result in the Colorado Judicial Branch Docket Search does not mean the Kiowa municipal case vanished. The state tool covers District and County Court hearings. It does not cover every town ordinance docket.
The Kiowa phone fallback also works when all you have is a name and an old citation. Give the clerk enough detail to separate similar records. If no municipal matter turns up, reread the issuing document and check whether the Kiowa event produced a state summons instead.
Kiowa Court Dates and Settings
Kiowa municipal settings begin at 9:00 a.m. and run until the docket is complete. The clerk-confirmed date controls. So does the citation. A first-Monday pattern is useful context, but holidays and the every-other-month schedule can shift it. State cases carry their own setting data through Combined Court and may list a different date, room, or appearance method.
| Date | The current municipal date confirmed by the Kiowa clerk, or the state date shown on the case setting. |
|---|---|
| Time | Municipal court starts at 9:00 a.m.; state matters follow the individual entry. |
| Courtroom | Town Hall for municipal court; state results may show Division 1, A, COC, or FCF. |
| Judge | The officer assigned to the specific municipal or state setting. |
| Setting Type | The arraignment, pretrial, trial, return, conference, or other event named in the notice. |
Read a Kiowa appearance field exactly as written. In person, virtual, telephone, and no appearance required are not interchangeable, and watching a public livestream does not count as a Kiowa court appearance.
Kiowa Court Docket Division Labels
At Kiowa Combined Court, District Court Division 1 handles felony, larger civil, domestic, probate, and juvenile matters. Kiowa County Court Division A takes misdemeanors, state traffic, small claims, and limited civil matters. Both are state trial divisions in Kiowa. Neither is part of the Kiowa town municipal court.
- Division 1
- The resident Elbert District Court division at Combined Court.
- Division A
- The Elbert County Court division for lower-level state cases.
- T
- The case-class letter used for a state traffic matter.
- M
- The case-class letter used for a County Court misdemeanor.
- COC or FCF
- Displayed courtroom or context labels that should be repeated exactly when calling.
A Kiowa state number may look like 2026-M-00123. Keep the year, letters, sequence, and leading zeros intact. The Kiowa clerk can explain any Kiowa class that is unfamiliar.
Kiowa Traffic Tickets
Figure out what kind of paper you are holding first. It might be a town citation. It might be an Elbert County Sheriff penalty assessment. Or it might be a summons into state court. A Kiowa municipal citation belongs with the municipal clerk. A penalty assessment can sometimes be paid within 20 days through the county route. A summons is different, since you must appear on the date printed.
Two different counters share 751 Ute Avenue. Don't mix them up. The Sheriff payment counter handles eligible penalty-assessment payments. Questions go to MTC/Sheriff at 303-621-2027 option 4. The Combined Court handles state summonses and court-date questions at 303-621-2131. For the county-wide picture, the Elbert County traffic court record route lays out the details.
The county's own listing of Kiowa court contacts sits here: Elbert court media contacts.
That listing shows why a ticket should be sorted by issuing court and task. The street address is not the sorter. Keep payment questions and court-date questions separate. A timely Kiowa penalty-assessment payment can follow the Sheriff route when it qualifies. Anything else goes elsewhere. A contested charge, a reset, or a balance on a Kiowa summons belongs with the state court named on the paper. A municipal ticket stays with Town Hall.
Kiowa Recorder Is Not Court Clerk
The elected Elbert County Clerk and Recorder does not keep the Kiowa state court docket. That office handles deeds, elections, vehicles, and other county recording work. Its own guidance sends divorce record questions to the Kiowa Clerk of Court. A recorded judgment can sit among county instruments. That is not the full Kiowa court file or register of actions. For District and County Court records, use Lynda Eichler's Combined Court clerk office. For a municipal record, call the Kiowa municipal clerk. The distinction matters here. All three counters sit close together in the county seat. It is easy to land at the wrong one.
Where Kiowa Cases End Up
A Kiowa town ordinance or municipal traffic allegation stays in Kiowa Municipal Court, unless an appeal or another state filing creates a separate Kiowa record. State misdemeanors and traffic matters are filed in Elbert County Court. Felonies, larger civil suits, domestic relations, probate, and juvenile matters go to District Court at Kiowa Combined Court.
Docket flow: Kiowa Municipal Court › Elbert County Courts › District Court
District and County Court are not rungs on one appeal ladder. Each has its own original jurisdiction. Search the court named on the Kiowa document first, then follow any appeal or transfer number in a later notice.
Kiowa Joined the 23rd District
Elbert County joined the new 23rd Judicial District on January 14, 2025. Douglas and Lincoln counties joined it. Kiowa stayed the site of Elbert County Combined Court. Older documents still refer to the 18th Judicial District. That label alone does not mean the file left Elbert County. For the town's broader public setting, see the Town of Kiowa source. That is the official municipal site.
The town site helps with municipal services. Current state docket questions still go to the Judicial Branch and Combined Court.
Request Kiowa Court Record Copies
For a town file, ask the Kiowa municipal clerk what record exists and how to get it by phone, counter, or mail. State court access offers more channels. The free docket shows settings. CoCourts covers eligible history. The Record/Document Request Form, the Combined Court counter, and mail after confirming requirements all work for filings. Telephone is 303-621-2131. Faxed documents are not accepted at Combined Court.
Give the complete case number, caption, county, and the exact document wanted. The state request form ordinarily promises a response within three business days absent extenuating circumstances, and fees may apply. Ask whether a public terminal is available instead of assuming one exists. Only the clerk can certify a Kiowa state court copy.
A good Kiowa request names one item, such as the register of actions, a judgment, or a signed order. Broad requests can demand more research or redaction. The Kiowa file may be older or stored off site. Ask the Combined Court clerk about retrieval and delivery before making the trip.
Public Access to Kiowa Court Records
Request Kiowa municipal files from the town clerk. State court records follow CJD 05-01 and related Colorado law. Remote access can omit sealed cases and juvenile material. It can also omit protected probate content, contact details, victim or witness information, and filed document images. Some of that material may still be viewable at a court facility. That can apply even when remote display is barred.
Key rules:
CJD 05-01 sets the main access framework for Colorado case records.
Colorado Open Records Act chiefly governs administrative public records rather than replacing court-file rules.
Title 19 protects juvenile records and identifying information.
A missing Kiowa online entry does not prove dismissal. Verify the current status with the clerk that holds the original record.
